SaffronThe scent of cinnamon fades as we walk towards the distance, passing the gardens and the carefuly constructed waterfalls. The night is full of spice and delicate flowers, the air heavy with blossoming scents and pollen that stains our robes.

"Have you brought me to this place to test my mettle, or to present me with a butterfly" I wonder, but we walk on silently into the ever cooler night, away from the lights and towards the edge of the garden, a hedge lit up by candles made of beeswax. At the gate cast from iron you stop, look for your silver key and I hear a click in the lock. The door swings open, not making a sound, and we step outside Saffron by *talvipaivanseisaus

Ups and Downs In our darkest days most of us wish to look down, because looking up at that endless sky of gray brings us down since we can't see the stars. Some of us wish to stare up at that dismal sea of negativity and hope a break will happen, or we think that we can look through the clouds to see the sky. However our vision is muddled when we do this and will lead us astray.

I will admit, there were times I could no longer gaze at that sky for all the wrong turns I made because I didn't see the sky for what it was...a challange. We aren't meant to see through the clouds, but to rise above them for our stars.

Detached AcceptanceThe picture slowly comes into focus- blurred around the edges, sepia-colored and aged. Lines dance over- it is like a silent film- almost.

There hasn't been a story for a while. Just the rain pattering down in rusty trails, and the sky so gray above. On the streets below people walk without much aim, or set destination. They only gape fish-like at the firmament, hoping to catch a few drops as they slide down dark umbrella shadows.

Hard to believe there's still a human heart pumping red- vibrant, life-red- in this place.
The typewriter keys faded a decade ago, but bone fingers still clatter uselessly away.

When I was young I always imagined that when I reached the wonderful self-fulfilling age of eighteen, I would become an adult.

I was in church when I knew I was one of the Select, one of the Chosen few.

The church where our preacher led his flock always appeared a tad lopsided, as though squinting; trying to perceive exactly what was going on so deep in its belly. I never felt like the church was holy, in its lopsided gap-toothed stance. Not the way the trees musky rainy scent always felt, or the moment precisely before dawn when the stars began to flicker out like the silver and copper shining of a trout's scales before it dives.
