One morning, like every morning, a young Kitsune emerged from within the shrine. In her hand she held a new tanzaku. Walking out to the dew covered courtyard she scanned the trees for a free space to hang the bright cerulean blue paper. Once it was hung, she stepped back and nodded with satisfaction, and then she proceeded to perform her duties as the shrine’s guardian spirit. That night there was a severe thunderstorm. The Kitsune shut herself in the deepest part of the shrine and waited the storm out all the way until morning.
When the Kitsune went out, she sighed in relief when she saw that the damage was minimal. She walked through the ground
